A European renaissance

What was once a hope is now becoming reality. Since Donald Trump’s first election and the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, there has been a sense that the member states of the Union are ready to establish a common defence policy.
 
Now we are there.
 
Nothing will be easy, but faced with the Russian threat and the American disengagement, the EU intends to assert itself and do so alongside many other countries, from the United Kingdom to Ukraine.
 
This is the birth of a new power, a European renaissance, which I am documenting here as a journalist and Member of Parliament.
