Mr Putin, you failed

Speech in the plenary debate on High Representative Josep Borrell’s visit to Russia

With an ounce of intelligence, he could have got the message brought to him by the mere fact that Josep Borrell has come for a visit. With an ounce of finesse, he could have understood that although we condemned, totally condemned, and said it loud and clear that we condemned the judicial harassment inflicted on Alexei Navalny and the arresting of the demonstrators who support him, at the same time we wanted to keep bridges open with Russia, especially when it comes to Iran.

A message to Mr Xi Jinping

Plenary speech in the debate on Hong Kong

Foreword

Dear Readers,

welcome to this site.

It is not simply the webpage of the Member of the European Parliament, who I have become with great apprehension. Not of the journalist either, who I have been for half a century.

It is a wild ambition: I wanted to give a report on my work as an elected representative in Brussels and in Strasbourg, to continue to follow the evolution of world politics and to try to describe and decipher the stakes and the mysteries behind the scenes of the European institutions.

I wanted to create a multilingual site, to step across the borders that sometimes still separate us.

“Smithing makes the smith”, I hope you will bear with me.

Yours,

Bernard Guetta
